Zabljak (Turkish: Yabliyak) is a town in northern Montenegro with a population of approximately 1,900. It is located in the centre of the Durmitor mountain region, at an altitude of 1456m, which makes it the highest situated town on the Balkans.
The entire area of Durmitor Mountain is protected as a national park and offers both winter and summer activities. Snow cover lasts about 120 days per year, so skiing can be enjoyed at Savin kuk, Štuoc or Javorovaca. Raft on the Tara River canyon, the second-deepest river in the world. Also, enjoy mountaineering, cycling, and hiking. There are 18 glacier lakes. Visit Crno jezero (literally black lake), it is the biggest and closest to Zabljak.
The closest airport is the Zabljak Airport and the closest international airport is Podgorica Airport, which is approximately 170 km away. There are excellent national cuisine restaurants and accommodations in Žabljak are abundant, except around New Year's Eve, when it is overcrowded.
